Cross My Heart by Abigail Strom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Jenna Landry has come home to Iowa to spend the summer teaching a music class. As one of the former band members of rock band The Mollies, she has had her share of follies but when she meets neighbor Michael Stone and his teenage daughter, she feels an attachment she never wanted with another person.
Michael doesn't know what it is about Jenna, who is completely opposite of him, but he can't stop thinking about her. Her unique perspective about his daughter has made for their short visit to finally be what he always hoped it would be. As he comes up with an arrangement to tame the desire building between them, he finds he is not willing to just let it go, but Jenna is a free spirit and he does not want to every stifle the bright light she radiates for those around her.
I liked this, it is a bit melancholy in spots but overall had a great story. Michael is very rigid in his ways, if he can't scientifically explain it he doesn't get it. Jenna exudes emotion which leaves Michael wondering if he is missing some important lessons in life. Fun read.
