The Changeup by Rhonda Shaw Book Tour and Giveaway

The Changeup

BLURB:

Playing for keeps

After nine years of striking out in the dating department, Maddie Hamlin is throwing in the towel. But just as this mom resolves to remain single, she meets sweet and sexy pitching phenom Chase Patton at a family dinner. He’s perfect for her and aside from the fact he’s only twenty-two.

Chase knows he should be focusing on his rookie year with the Detroit Rockets, but he can’t stop thinking about Maddie. He doesn’t care that the beautiful school counselor is twelve years older, and he’s already lost his heart to her adorable daughter. When an incredible date leads to an incredible night of passion, he knows he never wants to let her go.

But dating in the media spotlight is a whole new ball game. Maddie quickly discovers that not everyone accepts their unconventional relationship and that finding love may mean losing everything else…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Maddie felt herself blush fiercely at the lingering look he gave her, but she remained where she stood and watched as he walked through the living room and out the front door, keeping a smile plastered on her face even though it felt as if everything was freaking out internally. When the door closed behind him, she closed her eyes as she let out the breath she’d been holding and slouched against the counter. This was a bad idea. Nothing good could come from it; in fact, the only possible outcome was one of them getting hurt. But even knowing that, she couldn’t stop herself. She couldn’t ignore the fact that he got her juices flowing without much effort.
Despite all that, it wasn’t enough. She was much older than he was. They were in two different stages of their lives; there was nothing to build on. While she was looking to lead a quiet, comfortable and peaceful life, he should be looking for excitement, thrills and new experiences—casualness versus commitment, living-it-up versus settling down.
And then there was the inevitable scrutiny of their age difference. Even if they got past it, others would comment on it. Their families would definitely have opinions on the matter and families were never ones to keep their opinions to themselves, especially ones that had people like Lenore in them, regardless of the existing awkward situation with Chase and her niece. How would they ever get past that? It wouldn’t be easy, but was it worth it?
Review
Maddie Hamlin learned the hard way that love isn't always enough.  Now a single mom of an adorable nine year old, Maddie has had one bad date too many and is ready to call it quits.  Singledom doesn't have to be a negative. does it?
Maddie had not met baseball pitcher phenom Chase Patton yet and after an initial meet and greet that allowed her to talk to the charming man, she never expected anything from it.   Chase though has been thinking about Maddie and although he is only twenty-two he is an old soul and wants to see if there is something there.
Maddie is not used to trusting and Chase wants her trust.  The age difference is a problem to Maddie, but Chase doesn't feel that way.  As they begin a relationship they both are falling hard for one another, but the people closest too them are not quite as happy about them dating and may just tear them apart.
I liked this one a lot, Maddie came off as a very real vulnerable character.  I thought Chase was a charmer and  so sweet and understanding with Maddie.  I look forward to more books by Rhonda Shaw in the future.
Chance of Rain by Amber Lin Book Tour and Giveaway
Chance of Rain
by Amber Lin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

The only things Natalie Bouchard wants to change are the weekly specials in her Gram’s diner. So when her high school sweetheart strolls back into Dearling, Texas, she allows herself to indulge in a little flirtation, but that’s as far as it goes.

Navy SEAL Sawyer Nolan has returned to sell his father’s land and get the hell out, no matter how enticing he still finds Natalie. Until a storm rolls over the Texas hills, stranding them together at the farm…and the memories of their steamy past  lead to a reunion filled with hot days and long nights.

Soon Natalie’s so far under Sawyer’s skin he can’t imagine being without her. But he has a lot of history in Dearling he’d like to leave behind, and Natalie is practically married to this town.  If Sawyer wants to be more than just another person who leaves Natalie, he’ll have to give his hometown—and himself—one more chance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt :
“You planning on staying in town long?”
Sawyer paused, as though deciding how much to share. She could have sworn regret flashed briefly in his eyes before he said, “Can’t say that I am.”
And that was that. He had left all those years ago. He would leave again.
She couldn’t possibly be disappointed.
Sawyer turned to her. “I know it’s early, but do you happen to have any of your famous cherry pie? Even after all these years, I still get the craving for it now and then.”
The flattery softened her. Cherry pie was her specialty, not Gram’s. He’d thought of it years later? It was seductive. He was seductive…but also dangerous. She stood on the precipice, ready to fall for him all over again.
“Sorry,” she said. “Fresh out.”
He gave her a rueful look. “Guess I’ll have to come by another time.”
From the corner of her eye, she saw Lucy’s eyebrows rise. Her friend knew she always kept a spare pie in the freezer for just this sort of request. But with Sawyer, pie seemed like a slippery, fruit-filled slope.
He took a swig of coffee and set it on the counter. The mug cracked down the side, separating from the handle. She stared at the broken pieces of ceramic, suddenly unable to defend the quality or quaintness of her diner. Unable to defend her own decisions, her dubious leadership. It wasn’t old-fashioned at all. It was cheap, backward, exactly what he must think of this town.
Exactly what he must think of her.
“Shit.” He grabbed the dish towel from her hand and wiped it up. “Sorry about that.”
She wanted to let him, but there was a jerkiness to his movements, an almost frantic edge that hinted at something darker beneath the surface. She caught his hands, and they stilled beneath hers. His gaze lifted to hers.
“It was really good to talk to you, Sawyer. Even if you leave town soon, I’m glad you came by.”
He swallowed. “I’d like to see you again.”
Her heartbeat quickened, and lower, a different kind of pulse strummed through her body. It doesn’t mean anything, she told herself sternly.
She forced a smile. “You know where to find me.”
Because she never ever left.
4 Stars
Navy SEAL Sawyer Nolan never wanted to return to Dearling, Texas but when his father passed he had to return.  In and out was Sawyer's plan, the memories surrounding the town and his father are too brittle and Sawyer doesn't want to reopen those wounds.  That is until he walks into the diner owned by Natalie Bouchard.
Sawyer had walked away from Natalie once and it looks like time has not tampered with the chemistry they once had.  Sawyer wants Natalie, but Natalie isn't interested in being a fling.  When Natalie decides she would rather have the memories, if even brief with Sawyer than nothing at all.  If Sawyer can let go of the past, he may just have a future because there is no denying Natalie owns him heart and soul.
Wonderful read, Sawyer was an intricate hero who felt abandoned in a sense by the town he grew up in.   Natalie was spirited and I liked the fact that she calls out Sawyer when needed, she doesn't side step the issues she lays it out.   Great book to sit down with on a rainy day.
Book Description:
Life has taught Angie DeMarco that all baseball players are womanizers, and her incredible one-night stand with sexy San Francisco Blaze back-up catcher J.T. Sawyer seemed to prove it. Determined not to give in to their sizzling chemistry a second time, she’s kept her distance ever since, focusing on her accounting job with the team. But now she’s laid off…and pregnant.
J.T. was hurt by Angie’s rejection, but with one more year with the Blaze, he has no time for love. He needs to spend the off season training hard so he can negotiate a better contract with a new team at the end of the year. But when Angie shows up on his doorstep, he‘s overwhelmed by wanting to not just do right by her but pursue a relationship with her. Hoping for a second chance, he proposes.
Angie agrees to marry J.T. on one condition: the marriage will be purely a business arrangement. But as Angie spends time with him and his family, and J.T. neglects his training to spend time with her, what begins as a union in name only slowly grows into something more—something that looks a whole lot like love and friendship.
Excerpt:
Just after nine, J.T. left Matt and Kelly at Kamu’s and headed back to his condo. Across the street, Blaze Field was dark, but the Blaze apparel and memorabilia shop outside the stadium was open and doing brisk business. He wasn’t surprised at the turnout, the fans were still reveling in the team’s World Series win—buying up anything that had World Series Champs emblazoned on it.
Although he’d reached the pinnacle of his sport, the victory was bittersweet. His playing time had been minimal and his only significant contribution had been a double in game six—the game that had clinched the Series. That double had scored the go-ahead run and for a few exhilarating hours he’d felt like he’d made a difference. Damn it. He wanted to feel that way all the time. More than anything he wanted to move beyond being a back-up to guys like Rick Taylor and Matt. The problem was, he’d mistakenly assumed his natural talent would be all he needed. Not true. Matt had opened his eyes to that.
After entering the lobby of his building, J.T. rode the elevator up to his floor. Although the condo was nice, he wouldn’t miss it. His house in Sacramento was a lot more spacious and had a big backyard, complete with a pool and hot tub. His older brother, Jake, owned a gym and had agreed to train him during the off season. Jake assured him he would put him through his paces and knowing his brother, there would be torture involved. That tub would come in handy to soak his sore muscles.
The moment he stepped out of the elevator he saw her. A flood of hot, rough sensations slid down his spine as she turned and those mesmerizing eyes of hers locked with his. His breath caught in his throat and he silently cursed himself for still being affected by her. It had been that way since the first moment he’d laid eyes on her and from the telltale thundering of his heart, not much had changed.
Quickly gathering his scattered wits, he strode toward the woman who, for the past couple of months, had been extremely successful at avoiding him—the woman who had shared his bed for one extraordinary night and was gone before sunrise.
Angie DeMarco.
J.T. wasn’t sure why she was standing at his door and didn’t speculate on the reasons as he approached her. Her arms were crossed over her chest, obstructing his view of the ring he still hadn’t seen but knew she’d started wearing a few weeks after their night together. His gut tightened. He shouldn’t care that she was engaged—they barely knew each other. It hit him then that he didn’t know much about her, yet he was intimately acquainted with almost every inch of her slender yet curvy body.
Halting in front of her, he didn’t say a word. Instead he let his gaze wander over her face. Her skin was porcelain smooth, her cheekbones high, and her mouth, with its slight upward tilt at the corners only hinted at the beautiful smile he’d coaxed out of her that night so many weeks ago. Her dark hair spilled around her shoulders in wavy corkscrew spirals that almost begged to be touched. It was soft. It ticked him off that he remembered not only that, but every single thing about the night they’d spent together.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, more harshly than he’d intended. A twinge of guilt hit him but he quickly got over it. They’d had a one night stand—end of story.
Angie loosened her arms from over her chest to push her hair back. Something she did quite frequently. “I—I need to talk to you.” She paused, bit her lower lip and continued, “It’s important. May I come inside? I don’t want to talk about it in the hall.”
“Why not?” He fished for his keys in the pocket of his jeans. “This should be interesting,” he muttered as he unlocked the door and hit the light switch by the door as he moved inside. “Sorry about the mess. I’m packing up to head home.” He waved a hand toward the boxes still strewn around the room. Some of them were packed and taped up, but a few were still waiting to be filled.
“When are you leaving?”
“Sunday morning.” He closed the door to find Angie standing with her back to him, surveying the disaster that was his living room. It was the perfect opportunity to check out her ass, showcased to perfection in the snug black pants she wore. When she turned, he forced his gaze upward to meet hers. She had the most beautiful eyes he’d ever seen—a startling blue that reminded him of the aquamarine gemstones that glittered in the necklace his mother wore on special occasions.
“Sacramento, right?” Angie fidgeted with the strap of her purse on her shoulder, then clasped her hands together in front of her. She seemed nervous. Why?
“Yes.” J.T. set his keys on the table next to the entry. “So why are you here?”
“Now that I’m here, I’m not quite sure how to say it.” She paused and took a deep breath before exhaling. Her face had turned pale and there were dark shadows underneath her eyes. Whatever she had to say seemed to be weighing heavily on her. But what could it be? Was she sorry for avoiding him for weeks? Was she sorry she’d gotten engaged?
Angie let out another breath. “I’m pregnant.”
Jase by MJ Fields Blog Tour
Book & Author details:
Jase by M.J. Fields
(Men of Steel #1)
Publication date: July 13th 2013
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Synopsis:
I sat in my room at our family’s tattoo parlor, Forever Steel staring at the phone. I hadn’t stopped looking at the picture of this crazy, quirky, insanely beautiful blonde haired blue eyed siren that invaded the Jersey Shore a month ago.
Carly Smythe was not my type at all. She was a twenty year old student at Stanford University in California, smart as hell, and funny. The shit kicker was she was so awkwardly unaware of what any man with pulse could see, and that was that she was a damn heartbreaker with a body that made me hard the very first time I saw her.
She made me crazy, she snuck out to see me, and then avoided any sexual advances I made on her, until I finally kissed her, and I didn’t wait for an invitation either: I took those pouty little lips and made them mine.
Carly was also an avid reader of those books, you know “Mommy Porn.” So my game had to be stepped up. Who the hell am I kidding? She could see through my game immediately, and it didn’t have the same effect it did on every other girl I hooked up with. And she didn’t go running for the hills, either. I fell hard… and fast.
Abe (her cousin) knew all the shit that had gone down in my life for the past five and a half years and in order to make this work, which I wanted it to… I needed to set the record straight, put it all on the line, give her the 411, and let her decide if after everything, she still wanted to give it up to a guy like me. A tattooed, pierced, f-up, with a past that was sure to send any girl into a tail spin. She was not any girl, she was…different.
She was everything he was not.  Jase Steel was the poster child for bad boy, he liked to flirt and show his prowess in bed.  He was a tattoo artist  and intense, but it didn't stop Carly Smythe from befriending him.
Carly is socially awkward, nineteen, a virgin, and going to Standford University.   Visiting her dad in New Jersey she meets Jase and begins a love/hate relationship.  Jase is clearly looking to get into her pants, his messages are all over the place, and although Carly is uncertain what it all means, she has more fun with Jase than she has in years.
Jase wants Carly, but there is a lot keeping them apart.  Jase has a secret he doesn't want to share with Carly.  Carly needs to finish school and distance is a huge factor.  They clash, makeup, and take readers for a wild ride.
This was a rollercoaster, but I think it needed it to be.  When we meet Carly she is nineteen and she gets the time needed to develop into the woman she is becoming.  Jase is a jerk, boy is he a jerk but you love him.  He is hard  and rough, but so vulnerable when it comes to Carly.   Anxious to read the next in series, the brothers you are introduced to are hot, hot, hot, can't wait.
AUTHOR BIO
I am very new self published writer,and had no clue what I was getting into, still mjdon’t—but I like it!
My imagination became apparent at age three. Sigma was my very first (imaginary) boyfriend. He lived about fifteen miles from my family’s farm. I took him chicken noodle soup every night on one of our snowmobiles, regardless of the season. Apparently he was very ill and “Thank God” I was able to care for him.
At eight my love for writing blossomed. My cousins and I (of course I was the president) wrote a newsletter and sold it to our family members.
Years later I decided to put it back into print to entertain my cousin on an aircraft carrier on 9/11 and very far away from home during a scary time for our country, (protecting our butts).
Fast forward to 2012. I read 50 shades and thought, I wanna do that!
I have two complete series The Love Series, and Wrapped and two new series Burning Souls and Men of Steel. Thirteen books in sixteen months. CrAzY and wonderful.
I love love! (I would love to reference a Pink song here but I will save my inappropriateness for my books.
I enjoy watching people grow and change with self realization and moments of clarity that sneak up behind you and smack you in the head. I love people and have always been able to see both sides of a story. Each person that comes into our life leaves us with something it is what we choose to do with it that helps us grow.
I live in central New York in the middle of nowhere and am surrounded by family and friend. I ran a small business out of my home and have recently closed my door to pursue this dream full time. I spend time writing and doing the typical Mommy things. Our house is full of pets, friends, and noise ninety percent of the time. I would have it no other way.
I love people,music, laughter, hugs, books, and talking about books.
I’m very excited to share that I have recently signed and am now represented by with Marissa Corvisiero.
She knows they only want the best for her, but when they question her artistic vision, it’s time to break free. Julia’s search for independence carries her to the small town of Sanctuary, West Virginia. Then Julia Castillo blows into town like a fresh mountain breeze, changing his staid, predictable life forever. Has Paul earned his second chance at happiness? Or does loving Julia mean having the strength to let her go?
Excerpt:
Sharon, the owner of Healing Springs Stables, kept up a running commentary as she led them through one barn, out to the paddocks, and back into another barn. The stable hands all greeted Paul by name.
“No wonder you got elected mayor. You know everyone!” Julia said.
“I kissed a lot of babies too.” He gave her hair a teasing little tug that sent shivers of pleasure waltzing down her spine.
She was so caught up in the deliciousness of the sensation that she paid no attention to the black horse with its head thrust over the stall door. A blur of motion made her turn her head, just as the horse bared its teeth and lunged for her arm. Paul’s hand went from her hair to her shoulder in a split second as he clamped her hard against his side and yanked her out of range of the snapping jaws.
“Now who the hell forgot to shut Darkside’s cage?” Sharon exclaimed, dodging the vicious teeth as she shoved the horse’s head back inside the stall and swung a barred half door closed over the opening. “I’m sorry he nearly tore a strip off your hide. He is the orneriest SOB I have ever met.”
Julia stared at the horse through the bars. This was the dark, menacing creature she had been painting over and over again. Excitement shivered through her. “He’s my Night Mare,” she whispered, Sharon kept up a running commentary as she led them through one barn, out to the paddocks, and back into another barn. Review
Paul Taggart had no idea that when he pulled over to help a damsel in distress, she was elusive artist Julia Castillo.   He has no clue about Julia, but as they become closer he realizes that Julia has been sheltered her whole life and her fears are ever apparent.
Julia fled to Sanctuary hoping that she could find her out if her artwork was really as bad as her uncle claimed.  Finding that so much of her life has been based on lies, Julia decides to stay in Sanctuary bonding not only with a temperamental horse but finding a mutual attraction to Paul.  Julia is holding a secret, a secret that would expose the hidden meanings behind her paintings.
This was a tearjerker for me.  I felt for Julia, she is timid, afraid, and finding her independency.  Paul is suave but with Julia he is unsure of his actions.   Wonderful read.
Give Me Desire by Zoey Derrick Review Tour and Giveaway
BLURB:
VIVIENNE CALLAHAN, discharged from the hospital after surviving a near-fatal attack from Riley, her abusive ex-boyfriend, has come to the safety of Mikah’s protection. As she continues to heal physically and mentally from her ordeal, she begins to have strange dreams...dreams that follow her into waking life and hint at a fate she never could’ve foreseen and dangers far greater than Riley.
Meanwhile, MIKAH BLAKE has some ideas about her future, too, and the more she considers his proposals, the weaker her resistance to him becomes. His recent actions have taught her to respect and trust him, but soon her feelings for him threaten to deepen into something more, something she may not be ready for.
In the third book of the Reason series, Vivienne will discover who and what she and the people around her really are.
Excerpt:
"Alright." I sigh. "When are you coming home?"
"Do you miss me?"
"Yes."
I hear his sharp intake of breath at my words.
"Why does that surprise you?" I ask.
"Because. I miss you, too."
I smile.
"I will be home tomorrow, hopefully in the morning. Viv, I wanted to ask you something else."
"What's that?"
"Tomorrow night there is a charity gala that I'm supposed to attend. I'd like it if you would be my date."
"Uh..." I'm taken aback by his question, surprised that he would want to take me to something like that. "Mikah, I've never been to anything like that before." I pull my feet up, cross my legs and lean back into the couch. I place my hand on my belly and begin rubbing it.
"I know, but it's really no big thing. We go, have dinner, there is an auction, and dinner is followed by a dance. It's a stuffed shirt, black tie kind of thing. I am not a fan of going to them, but this one is for an important charity that I've been a part of since its inception, so it is really important that I be there. I just don't want to go without you."
I'm pondering his words as I continue to stroke my belly. "I have nothing to wear," I say, and he chuckles.
"Does that mean you'll go?"
I roll my eyes at his enthusiasm. "Yes, Mikah, I'll go."
"Yes! Okay, I will have Celeste make some arrangements for you to have a nice, relaxing day tomorrow, get your hair done, be pampered a little. And when you guys go out today, you can find yourself a dress." The excitement in his voice is infectious, and I can't help but smile.
With Vivienne still recovering from the brutal attack, she has agreed to accepting Micah's help.  Micah has done everything he can think of to bring comfort to Vivienne and help her with her pregnancy.   Both are learning to adjust to one another and Vivienne is finding her feelings are growing for Micah, she knows he feels the same way but has not acted on it.   With a threat still out there and Vivienne learning how truly special she is, she begins to realize that she is Micah's anchor just as much as he is hers.
The third in the Reason series.  This was the one I had been waiting for, the emotions were rampant and I loved the pacing in this story.   Micah is such a sweetheart, so tender in his care for Vivienne.  This was my favorite in the series thus far, anxious for the next book.
