Embattled Minds by J.M. Madden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Co-owner of the restaurant former Marine Zeke Foster frequently visits, Ember Norton finds herself fascinated by the scarred soldier. She notices the subtle looks and shares a few of her own, but Zeke has never gotten around to asking her out and she is not sure if the feeling is mutual.
Zeke knows he can look but not touch with Ember. He has seen the flinches, looks of disgust, and sympathy when others look at him, although he can't recall that from Ember, he knows she could never be with someone like him. When Ember is abused by her father who is suffering from PTSD, Zeke is the first to rally around her and her son. Ember sees this as the opportunity to show Zeke how she really feels, but Zeke has it in his mind that it cannot be real and she is deluding herself. Fortunately for Zeke, Ember is determined to have Zeke in her life.
It started off with a moderate pace, developing the relationship between Zeke and Ember. Then BAM they were in a serious relationship, a little rushed but overall good story. I thought Zeke was an interesting character, he is recovering still and has a problem with his speech but he doesn't let it stop him from living life. I would read more from this series.
