Music for the Muse : Writing Challenge #2

Hosted by Riverina Romantics

My Choice: The Civil Wars - Poison & Wine

Here is mine

Gabriella woke up to an empty bed, she glanced around the dark lit room to see if there was any sign of Ash.  After two years of a twisted tango dancing around one another and yet denying the attraction between them, Gabi had finally made a move on Ash which proved to be as electrifying as she had hoped.

Gabi had met Ash through her cousin Dillon, they both worked in security and Ash had become a close friend.  Although they saw each other frequently, the conversations were always focused on her.  Gabi had been recovering from a spinal cord tumor when she first met Ash, she shuddered when she remembered meeting him with a pixie style haircut and gaunt features.  Ash had talked to her like she was a normal person, not one recovering from an illness.

Gabi had fallen a little bit in love that day, he had not been afraid to look at her or purposely avoid her.  He had not catered to her, she set the pace and he accepted that.  They had formed a close friendship but in all that time she had never really gotten past the surface with Ash and when she had begun to ask about his personal life he took a step back.   The friendship had become stilted and even though he always made a point of seeking her out, she felt like she had lost her best friend.

Gabi had finally had enough, it took a lot for her to open up to someone and had been undeniably hurt by Ash.  Deciding to confront him, she mustered up all her courage and asked him to come over to her house.  Ash had arrived and the look on his face said it all, he was going to sever their friendship.  For the first time since she had met him, he would not look her in the eyes and had mask of guilt and perhaps regret on his face.

Gabi had asked what she had done to push him away, why he avoided her.   Ash had said she had it all wrong and made excuses to leave when Gabi finally said the one thing that had Ash standing still, I could have loved you forever.

One searing kiss led to an endless night of passionate love making only to have her waking up alone.  Gabi crawled out of bed and grabbed her robe, hoping Ash was in the kitchen or at least still in her house.  When she saw the lights off in every room, her stomach dropped.   It wasn’t until she found the note on the table that she realized he had left and with him so had her heart.

I can’t do this.  Sorry Gab, it wasn’t meant to be.

One entry so far...
