An Alpha's Path by Carrie Ann Ryan

An Alpha's Path (Redwood Pack, #1)An Alpha's Path by Carrie Ann Ryan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When Kade Jamenson agrees to a blind date with Melanie Cross, he doesn't expect to come away with much except a pleasant evening and maybe a one night stand. He is stunned when he realizes she is his mate, but he wants to tread carefully for he thought another was his mate and doesn't want to get burned again. As the night progresses, how does he convince the shy woman in front of him that she is his mate?

I give this a 3.75, I wish it had been longer. I was wanting more and felt like there was key elements missing from the story. Although it does come full circle you want a bit more to see the two characters struggle with Melanie's knee jerk initial reaction.

Love Comes For Halloween by Jennifer Conner Book Tour, Interview, and Giveaway

Love Comes for Halloween

Now it’s her turn.  Until she’s kissed, Jane, is the last one of her girlfriends to wear the Mobile Mistletoe. Feeling pressured by her friends, she jumps on her dad’s motorcycle and heads out on the open road. But she doesn’t get far before it breaks down. What else can go wrong? Will she be eaten by a bear?
Gage has a past he wants to forget. Retreating to the mountains, where he can build custom bikes and cars in seclusion, he wants to give back for the mistakes he’s made.
Neither Jane or Gage are looking for a relationship, but isn’t Halloween the perfect time of year to scare up some love?

Excerpt from Love Comes for Halloween:
“Well it’s working. You’re beautiful in the morning.” His gaze locked with hers and she knew he meant what he said.  “I don’t know how you manage to look so good. I look so bad I must look good.” He chuckled
She shifted feet and tucked her hair behind her ear. Gage must have just taken a shower, he smelled like manly spicy soap and shampoo and his hair was still damp at the tips. He was cute. He was very cute. What would he look like without all that beard scuff? She tipped her head and tried to imagine.
He took off the hood of the car and lay in on the workbench for her to begin airbrushing the eagle design. It was hard to concentrate on what she was doing when her eyes kept wandering to the fine set of Levi’s bent over the car which were attached to Gage’s rear end.
As hours passed, the afternoon sun heated the shop and soon Gage shucked off his flannel shirt and threw it over a chair. Jane’s pulse jumped when Gage reached over his head to stretch. He exposed a sliver of ab muscles and a trail of black belly hair. Oh my. Like a fine lady of the South, Jane wished she had a piece of paper to fan herself.

It’s fun to have visuals in my head as I write my characters, especially the hero. (Wink) Many times, I print off the photos and have them at my writing desk for inspiration. I usually don’t go with too heavy of Alpha Males and more into characters who have baggage and need to turn things around. Braylon has a prison record from something dumb he did as a teen, and is hiding out to drop out of society.

I did have a true bad boy in mind. That visual is from a personal favorite man candy of mine and a true miracle makeover. A few years back I watched the DVD, The Gods of Football (girlfriends if you have not seen this it’s on Netflix and WELL worth the hour!). THIS football is Australian Rules Football and Rugby.  The players posed for a calendar to raise money for breast cancer. I have to tell you, I didn’t know they MADE guys like this. But there is a special section on the DVD about the player, David Williams. They call him ‘The Wolfman’ for a reason. Full shaggy beard, long scraggly hair. He started into the photo shoot and the photographer told him… no… it was not working and to cut his hair and shave the beard. OMG. He is one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen! He can rival ANY male GQ model. Google Him, you will not be sorry! Gorgeous!

From this
 To THIS!!!

And then there are not words… sigh

I have always loved soccer, but I think Rugby & Aussie Football may be my new favorite sport!

With Jane, I’m not sure. I wanted a woman who was strong and could match Braylon in wit and tattoos! Who would you have in mind? Maybe Rooney Mara from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in looks but WAY less personal baggage.

I hope you enjoy Loves Comes for Halloween as much as I enjoyed writing it!

I have had a ton of fun writing the Mobile Mistletoe series over the past year and it’s a good story of how I came up with the idea. I was at a Christmas shop with my best friend. Her daughter found this dorkey headband with a spring of plastic mistletoe dangling off it. She put it on and came up with the title, Mobile Mistletoe. Why start it on Valentine’s Day? That upped the stakes when four girlfriends make a pact to wear it until they are kissed. That was Christmas… now it’s Valentine’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, The Fourth of July and now the last of the four, Jane for Halloween.

I left Jane as the last of the four because she’s the tattooed bad girl.

So what better to find than a bad boy J

Breathing in short, sharp breaths, Zane followed her through the winding corridors of the Richter Stadium, past the women’s bathrooms and down a flight of stairs. He held his breath for a moment as he slid through the remaining security crew. His golden eyes zeroed in on the whipcord lean beauty, a few dark curls coiling down from the sensible bun she always wore it in.
She stopped, hesitating right outside the doors. Two more steps and he’d lose her to the nightlife, his identity keeping him from following her any farther. If fans saw him, his life would become a hurricane of screams and groping hands. He wasn’t in the mood to put on his usual charming-playboy air to deal with them and he knew that going furry on their asses would damage his career.
Now or never. As she stepped out, he lurched forward, his pulse pounding furiously at his throat, and he crossed the floor in three strides. His fingers curled around her shoulders, firm and commanding, though he knew she hated it when he pulled the alpha role. She spun and her lips formed a thin line, as if she’d been expecting this. She’d known. You couldn’t really lie to pack and get away with it.
“Charlie.” The one word was all he could say before her eyes pinned him. They were pale as a sheet of blue ice, staring up at him with a gentle ferocity that she’d only ever reserved for him. He had no doubts that she wanted him—he’d smelled it on her in the past, saw the way she looked at him sometimes, as if she was seeing through to his soul—but she was wary. Guarded. The walls around her heart were made of marble and he was left pounding both fists against the cool stone.
“You can’t leave.” His words were a statement. A fact.
“I can and I am,” she replied coolly.
“What about the guys? What about High Velocity? You’re just going to throw it all away?” He was surprised at the intensity behind his words, but he was far from done. “Are we not paying you enough? There’s always ways around that. How much will it take?”
She blew out a harsh expel of air and glanced down at his hand clamped around her arm, but she didn’t bother to pull away. Her winter gaze met his molten gold once more. “I’ve made my decision, Zane. You need to respect it. There comes a time in everyone’s career where they have to make a choice and take a stand. This is it. I’ve put in my notice, I’ve followed protocol. There shouldn’t be a problem.”
A growl slid up his throat, escaping with a rumble. “I don’t give a damn about protocol. You could flash your tits to the crowd if you wanted and we still wouldn’t fire you. I don’t care. You’re part of our group. And, like it or not, you’re part of the pack. My pack.”
“You and I both know that I’ve never really been part of the pack.” Her voice carried a touch of wistfulness. She was right—she’d always been a bit of a loner, keeping herself estranged from the members of Elysium, try as his parents might to welcome her in. But she’d never been distant with Zane and the guys and he wasn’t about to let that happen. Not now.
“You’re staying.”
She lifted a brow. “Since when are you my master?”
“Since you started talking crazy shit about leaving us!” He tamped his anger back down. He never had a temper. What was up with him? He took a deep breath, letting it whistle out his nose as he tried to soften his posture, tried to be less demanding. “We need you. Okay? I respect your decision to quit, but you don’t have to skip town and leave us. Just stay.” Please…
Her smile was tight. She shook her head slowly, like he just didn’t get it, and pulled free of his grasp. “Goodbye, Zane.”
His mind spun, thoughts bouncing off the walls of his head as he tried to scrape ideas together in a last-minute rush. He needed more time. He needed a damn good reason for her to stay, but damn it, he couldn’t think! She turned around, agonizingly slow, and he could see the muscles in her back through the crispness of her suit.
“Charlie. One last night.” His voice was soft, a plea in the undercurrent that he cursed himself for exposing. She stopped and he moved forward until his chest was pressed against her back, one arm wrapping around her waist. He pulled her against him, her body cupping his perfectly, like it was made for him.
She stiffened, but he didn’t let her go. His arm snug around her, he rubbed his chin lightly across the back of her neck, letting the stubble scrape gently against her skin. He murmured in her ear, using the sexiest voice he could muster. His beautiful-girl voice. “Go for a run with me. Tonight. One run.”
He’d figure something out between then and now. He’d get her back.

Rock star and shifter Zane Alexander has everything he wants at his fingertips, except head of security Charlie Banks.  From the first day she joined the band she made it clear she wasn’t interested, but Zane knows she is his mate and although not a saint is waiting it out.  When Charlie unexpectedly gives her notice, Zane comes up with a plan to keep her with him until he can convince her she is right where she needs to be, with him, as his mate and lover.

Best laid plans very rarely work and Zane’s is a doozy, his warped idea starts with a pretend threat against him only to have the threat become very real.   If he comes clean, he loses Charlie but when the attacks become personal he knows he has to risk everything to keep her safe.  I thought this was highly entertaining, filled with the potential for more stories each character is intriguing and polar opposites of one another.   I liked that Charlie had maintained a professionalism throughout until she gave notice and the real Charlie comes out to play and throws everyone off kilter.

Love Under Two Cowboys by Cara Covington

Love Under Two Cowboys (Lusty, Texas, #12)Love Under Two Cowboys by Cara Covington
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Chase and Brian Benedict have been waiting for Carrie Rhodes to realize that she is the one for them. While they have been flirting regularly and making their intention clear, her shy demeanor has kept them at a distance, until she witnesses the wedding of one of Lusty's newest couples.

Carrie has secrets and before she can truly commit herself to Chase and Brian, those secrets have to be revealed, they don't want half a a woman, they want her body and soul.

I had a difficult time with this one, I don't know why because I generally am a big fan of Cara Covington's work. I think for me there as just so many people in it and then you had a couple sideline stories and it all got overly convoluted when I just wanted to focus on Chase, Brian, and Carrie. I think I will try to reread at a later date and see if it is better the second time around.

Millie's Second Chance by Dixie Lynn Dwyer

Millie's Second Chance (The Town of Pearl, #4)Millie's Second Chance by Dixie Lynn Dwyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Millie Donovan left the town of Pearl years ago, but her fond memories never wavered sending her best friends Anna and Stacey to find true love and away from the negative lifestyles they were surrounded with. Millie should have taken her own advise, but she met a man who she thought she was in love with only to have him brutally abuse her and leave her within a thread of life. When she finds out he got early parole she is worried, when she receives a phone call from him she panics and heads to Pearl. The one thing Millie vows is never again let a man in her life.

The Lewis brothers are looking to find a relationship similar to the menage lifestyles the town accepts, but they have not found a woman they can all agree on. The biggest hurdle right now for them is Dalton, he has been hurt and that he wears battle scars has him questioning every women in their path. When he meets Millie he is attracted to her, but quickly decides she is the same as the rest of the women who fawn over the Lewis brothers. Hank, Jeremy, Anthony, and Marco see it differently and little by little Millie gets under all of their skins. Dalton is the first to act though and once her tender kiss hits his lips there is no going back, he plans to protect her no matter what. Millie is used to be independent and has had so many bad experiences she is not quite willing to hand over the reigns quite yet, wondering if it is possible to find true love. The Lewis brothers intend to prove there is.

I liked this one, but probably my least favorite. I was slightly confused because there is a back story that really was not referred to in Anna and Stacey's stories which is huge. I liked Millie, but was more interested in the male characters particularly Marco who is a deputy and really controls the tone of the story when he is in it. Dalton is a quick runner up though.

Savin' Me by Alannah Lynne

Savin' Me (Heat Wave, #1)Savin' Me by Alannah Lynne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kat Owens didn't know what made her agree to a one night stand, but when she met Erik Monteague fell into one full heartily. A year later she has moved to a new city, new job, and new start. The last thing she expected to see was her one night stand who would like a repeat performance or one or two...

Erik doesn't do relationships, the one he had ten years ago taught him a valuable lesson. Never put you heart out where it can get wounded, when he spent the one night with Kat he wanted something more from her. He is not sure what but he knows it can never lead down the path he knows she deserves, but when she is reluctant to have a fling it causes Erik to reflect and make an important decision.

I thought this was a wonderful read, the emotions were very real for both characters. Erik made a mistake in a heated moment when he was young and his guilt has ridden him since then. You sense he is afraid of what is developing between Kat and himself and it leaves him tormented on what to do. Kat though has always been trying to please her family and make them proud, when Erik is there for her in a time of need she finds herself falling deeply for him and is willing to take the time he needs to come to terms with his own feelings, but his ghosts cause him to panic and possibly lose everything he holds precious.

Of Love And Evil: The Birth by Hubert de La Bouillerie

By Hubert de La Bouillerie
Infinity Publishing
September 26th, 2012 (print)

Hubert de La Bouillerie’s debut novel, Of Love And Evil The Birth, is the first book in the Of Love and Evil trilogy published by Infinity Publishing. The second and third titles, Of Love And Evil The Pact andOf Love and Evil The Final Battle, have an anticipated release date of spring and fall of 2013.

About the Author

His debut novel, Of Love and Evil The Birth is currently being adapted as a film, graphic novel and game.

Paranormal Romance, What do you think about it?
By Hubert de La Bouillerie
Paranormal Romance is an interesting mix. Love and the power of the unusual, can create fantastic situations. Love being one of the most intense and primal emotions we have, confronted with the unspeakable forces of evil will bring the best out in us.

The fight to survive, to protect those we love in the face of insurmountable odds, against the armies of darkness is always gut wrenching and fascinating story telling.

If an author manages to capture your imagination with images of battles, from the mind to the physical, from the surreal to the metaphysical, while sewing a tale that keeps you up at night wanting for more, it can rival any other genre.

There is nothing more satisfying then when love has the power to conquer forces greater then ourselves, to fight the good fight regardless of the consequences and save our soul from damnation, we admire it.

Our imagination is limitless when love and romance fill the heart. When well executed, it is an explosive combination that powers the mind to dream the impossible.

I believe that Of Love And Evil The Birth accomplishes this; from a blood splattered cabin in Utah, to the heights of the Manhattan skyline, a woman’s discovery of her incredible past life to her coming of age in a world dominated by corporations intent on dominating the world for the few. Her voyage to make the world a better place through love, will challenge even the hardiest of us.

Ethan Savage has had a crush on his coworker Violet Moore for three years, but his Dom side of him can't settle for someone who is not submissive, and there is not an ounce of sub in Violet. Deciding it's time to sever the cord and distance himself, he plans to shut the door on his friendship with Violet until an unexpected discovery has him wondering if he knew Violet at all.

Very quick read, I wish it had been longer. I thought it was a bit rushed with Violet's introduction into Dom/sub play. Definitely had chemistry between the two though.

Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley

Wildest Dreams (Fantasyland, #1)Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Seoafin "Finnie" Wilde desperately wanted another chance to see her parents again, unfortunately their demise when she was fifteen has left an empty feeling in her heart, she never had the chance to say goodbye. Finding out that there is a parallel universe where each person has a twin, Finnie sees a chance to see her parents again and perhaps be able to let go finally. If you were given the chance to recapture something you once lost, would you do it for one year of your life, no matter the cost? Finnie did.

The plan was simple, one year to be with her parents. Her parallel twin would come over to our world, while Finnie would venture to a world filled with magic, castles, and adventure. As the plan formed, the communication between the two twins increased they wrote a letter to one another informing them of everything they would need to know to pass for one another without raising to many eyebrows. The day came and Finnie's adventure began......

Of course best laid plans always have a few rumples along the way, Finnie, now a princess, immersed into the new world only to find she was to be married in ten minutes. No time for explanations her husband to be was handsome, but in no means happy about the union, his cool demeanor was evident. Now Finnie finds herself married who doesn't want her, thrust into a cabin that is filthy and all alone until her husband decides he wants to see her again. It looks like there were a few things that were left out of the letter, but an adventure Finnie will have.

So I thought, this will be the book that doesn't captivate me so much that I drop everything and read. Yes, I was looking for a flaw! I mean really can Kristen Ashley continue her works of perfection, really and this one I figured would be the one that had me struggling with since it is not what I would normally read. I was so wrong, needless to say, the house is a pit, there is laundry to do, and I need to eat something. I don't know how she does it, but she does. I absolutely loved Frey Drakkar, I was stunned by his reaction to Finnie initially but it all made sense later. Frey is of the blood of the dragon and frey, he is unlike many of her other characters because he does some questionable things along the way that you know Finnie of our world would disapprove of. You have a woman of our world enter into a realm that reminded me of medieval times/enchanted realm and the mixture is humorous and fascinating.

With a difficult childhood, Connie Jamieson has had a hard time letting others in, even her husband before he passed away. Connie has kept her walls safely in place, taking care of her ranch and her son. The only male companionship she purposely seeks out that has any long term meaning is Beau Preston who is as close as she has ever allowed, and his twin brothers Josh and Colt whose flirtatious nature has her wondering if they are ever serious.

Beau has been waiting for Connie to let go of the guilt she feels about her husbands death. Biding his time he finally makes his move with his brothers encouragement and a wicked night has all four of them scumming to their needs. Connie only wants the one night, while the brothers want Connie long term. Connie is more tankerous than an untrained mustang but they are willing to wit her out and allow her to come to them, their plans hit a few bumps along the way and Connie's issues with trust could destroy what they are trying to build.

I was a bit disappointed in this one, Beau is sultry and delicious. Josh and Colt are randy and fun, but Connie is kind of abrupt and hard to read. Who knows I will probably reread and love it the second time around.

Fire Of The Wolf by Lori King

Fire Of The WolfFire Of The Wolf by Lori King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caroline Trainor's only thought when she braced the fire in her apartment was to save her neighbor and her little boy. Caroline has no family and although not related, they are the closest thing she has, protecting them is her only thought even if it costs her her life. Waking up to find Devin and Damon Gray in her hospital room, she is confused initially, until they make it clear they are not leaving. Caroline feels like she stepped into the twilight zone, she doesn't know these men and words like mate are flying through the air.

Devin and Damon never planned on having a mate, but even through the flames he knew who she was. Now that they found her they have to try and tame their temperamental mate who seems determined at pushing them away.

This was a lot of fun, discovered it accidentally but well worth the read. The twins are a hoot because one is the more gentile while the other is a hothead who is used to being Alpha and his word is final. Can't wait for the next one, could definitely be a series that you can't get enough of.

Strange things keep happening wherever she goes, a red-eyed shadow no one else sees is stalking her, and to top it off, she may be falling in love again, with either the bookish guy next door, or Hollywood’s hottest leading man.

But everything isn’t what it seems. Someone’s keeping secrets from her. Is it her new friends at the apartment building she moved into? Or is it Ryan Everheart, the actor who wants to sweep her off her feet? And why are her feet suddenly floating off the ground?

It’s enough to drive a girl insane. All Maxie wants to do is ride off into the sunset with her one true love and find a killer pair of Manolo Blahniks on the way. But how’s a girl supposed to focus on a love life and shopping when everywhere she turns someone or something is trying to kill her?

Salvaged by J. S. Marlo

The discovery of a submerged Model T blurs the line between dream and reality, exposing a young scuba diver's past and threatening her future.
Star Fisher refuses to let the scar marring her face dictate her choices or the dreams haunting her nights affect her life. A skilled scuba diver and underwater investigator, she assists in the salvage operation of a sunken Model T, but will it reveal its secrets?
Captivated by the feisty diver, captain Hauk Ludvikson struggles against his attraction as they explore the old automobile linked to the unsolved disappearance of a rich heiress. As past crimes create new ones, he must decide if he wants to protect Star or protect his heart.
With danger lurking under and above the water line, Star fights for her future—a future she may not salvage twice.

Hauk left the cabin and stepped onto the twelve-foot deck. According to his watch, Arnie and Fisher had been down less than ten minutes.
The oxygen tanks lined up against the storage bin beckoned to him. He grabbed the closest one and peered at the gauge. 1,700 pounds. Enough air for a short dive. Wanting to witness what had prompted Fisher's request, he geared up and dove in.
The wetsuit didn't completely insulate his skin from the colder water he encountered fifty feet below. With darkness surrounding him, he trusted the guide rope to lead him to the site as he continued his descent. Minutes later, through the shadowy waters, Hauk spotted his two divers. Arnie floated above a lamppost, and Fisher knelt on the lakebed in front of the wreck.
An object was in Fisher's hand. He swam toward her to get a better view, but the mysterious object disappeared into her bag, and she glided away from him before he had a chance to satisfy his curiosity. A few flutter kicks behind her, Hauk stretched out his arm with the intent of tapping her shoulder. Her hand swiftly swept across her belt, and a glint of light from the lampposts reflected off her glove.
She spun around. Eyes glazed with fear, she swung her arm. Sharp reflexes allowed Hauk to deflect the blow, but they didn't prevent her other hand from sneaking past his defenses. He inhaled sharply.
A silver blade, shining in the light, pushed against his hose, ready to sever his air supply with the flick of her wrist.

Taming the Outback by Ann B. Harrison

Libby is set on taming the outback as she takes over Quincy Station, but can she tame her rough neighbor, Nathan's, hardened heart as well?
Nathan Miller rattles Libby's nerves more than she cares to admit. He is the one person that stands between her and the family home that has been left to her. So why then does the man stir her up to such an extent, her body pulses with the need to have him? They do nothing but clash and snap at one another, and he makes no bones about the fact she shouldn't be Quincy's Station's new owner, but back in the city where he thinks she belongs.
Having had an unpleasant clash with a "city girl" once before, Nathan does not think Libby has it in her to stick it out. He refuses to give in to his urges. But when Mother Nature brings chaos to Quincy Station and threatens Libby's children, he'll either be proved right in his assumptions or find his barriers taken down by a stubborn woman and her kids.

The four-wheel drive truck pulled up behind her, and the driver's door opened. She couldn't see the occupant until he stood right in front of her, towering over her in the dim light. He was dressed in dusty work clothes and jeans, which sat snugly on broad hips. A thick cotton work shirt with sleeves rolled up to the elbows showed off strong, tanned arms. An old, worn hat was pushed down over short hair, hiding his face as he stood looking down at her.
"Are you okay?" he asked in a deep voice that rolled over her, triggering something familiar deep in her brain.
"No, my car overheated, and now it won't start." Libby sighed as she followed him to the front of the vehicle.
He shone a flashlight at the hood and told her to release it. He lifted it and stuck his head beneath. Muttering and cursing drifted back toward her ears. He slammed it back down and turned to her.
"You have a broken radiator hose," the stranger said. "The top one has completely blown, and the bottom one is on its way out. Don't you check your car at all? It's a bloody mess under that hood."
"My car runs fine normally." Libby straightened her spine. LSo much for country charm; Mr. Personality, you aren't. "But thanks for looking at it anyway. I won't hold you up any longer."
"Testy little thing, aren't you?" He pushed his hat back on his head as he came closer to her, his face barely visible in the fading light. "We don't leave women on the side of the road out in this country."
"What are you doing here?" Libby asked as she recognized the lawyer who had made such an impression on her at Aaron's.
"I live here. The question should be what're you doing here?" He sneered before walking away from her.
"I think you know the answer to that question. It's such a shame our first encounter is enough to upset you." Libby kicked at the dirt, knowing her softly spoken words had gone unheard.
At least he's easy on the eyes; pity his attitude isn't as nice.
Leaning on the back of his dust-covered truck, Nathan pulled his mobile phone from his pocket and punched in a number. He glanced over at Libby pacing back and forth while he waited for someone to pick up.
He'd known she was due soon, but he didn't expect to meet her out on the highway, broken down.
"Tom, it's Nathan, I'm out on the side of the road at the highway end, just before the turnoff. I think I have something which belongs to you." He grimaced as he looked back toward the women watching him. "You had better bring the truck out. Yeah, sure, I'll wait with her. Don't be too long. She's a little bit fiery. Sure, 'bye."
"So..." he drawled, walking back to stand before Libby. His heart was thumping, and a thin sheen of sweat was making his face heat up as he let his gaze run over her body from her pert nose to her long, bare legs. He noticed the blush on her cheeks while he scrutinized her under the flashlight beam. Damn you, Uncle Aaron. Cute and fiery. Too dangerous out here. If circumstances were different, or even another time and place, he could get attached to this woman—at least, physically. "You're the city chick who's going to take Quincy Station into the black, eh? I wonder if you know what you're taking on, sweetheart?"
"Don't you 'sweetheart' me, mate. It's Libby. Libby Holland, and yes, I am the city chick who's taking over my great-uncle's farm." She glared at him in the torchlight.
"Do you have a problem with that?"

Finding Baby J by Lorraine Nelson

One lonely woman, a doctor afraid of commitment... Will finding Baby J help them find each other?
Shana Davis knows what it's like to be unloved and unwanted. Her childhood involved being shuffled from one foster home to the next. One night, as her shift at Mercy hospital comes to an end, she hears a forlorn, mewling sound and finds a newborn baby boy left in a dumpster. The abandoned baby appeals to her soft heart and her immediate attachment to the child—dubbed Baby J—leads to her spending a lot of time in the Maternity Ward in the company of the handsome Dr. Daniels.
Dr. Kagan Daniels is heart-sore and commitment-shy due to his failed marriage and past experiences with selfish, cold-hearted women. But he sees a gentle, caring soul in Shana and is drawn to her. Despite his reservations, he realizes he wants to get to know her better and finds excuses to spend time in her company.
Having always wanted to be a daddy, Kagan adopts Baby J. As he and Shana grow closer, Shana feels she's found her own private heaven. She has Baby J and the man of her dreams. What more could a woman want?
But a conniving woman, a manipulative mother, and a man from Shana's past threaten to come between them. Will the lies spewed by others separate them forever? Or can their love win out over all?

Kagan held her hand as he guided her into the house. They walked through the foyer to ascend the magnificent staircase leading to the second story. Once there, he preceded her into his personal suite of rooms. The main area had a bay of windows opening out unto a balcony. The view overlooked the back lawn and gardens, which meandered down to the river where a boathouse and dock were just visible in the moonlight.
"Your home has such beautiful views."
"Nothing compares to the beauty of you. I especially like looking at you as I undress you, exposing that gorgeous body, one piece of clothing at a time."
Kagan matched his words with action, starting with her sweater, looped casually around her shoulders. He gathered her into his arms for a deep, passion-filled kiss. She felt that melting sensation that happened every time he kissed her. Her insides fluttered and took wing before settling into a delicious knot of anticipation. She stroked her hands down his chest and felt the ripple of firm muscle, enjoying the opportunity to explore his body more fully. Her inhibitions completely deserted her. Though he hadn't said the words, she felt he was making a commitment to them as a couple and not just playing the field.
He led her to the bed where he continued to strip her bare. Night had fully descended, moonlight reflecting off the water, illuminating the room enough so they could see each other.
She struggled with the buttons on his shirt, shaking so much from anticipation, her hands refused to work properly. In her haste, she ripped the remaining ones free and delighted in running her fingers through the coarse chest hair; the texture so different that when she rubbed her breasts against him, tingles went straight to her groin. Heavenly days! The sensations this man evoked in her were rocking her world.
Naked at last, they fell to the bed in a jumble of arms and legs, laughing, kissing, and caressing each other. She'd never thought of sex as fun, only as a necessity to consummate a relationship, but this sense of sharing and bonding between them filled her with a glorious awakening of her power as a woman. She delighted in arousing him, of being able to turn him on with the merest look or touch, as he did her.
Soon, all playfulness disappeared in the passion of the moment as their bodies joined together, working toward a common goal, that of pleasuring each other to fulfillment.

The Devil’s Match: The Devil DeVere, Book 4 by Victoria Vane

Once burned twice shy... but when old flames come together...passion reignites...
When burned once... Arriving in London as her goddaughter's chaperone, Baroness Diana Palmerston-Wriothesley wants to avoid her erstwhile lover at all costs.
Once nearly consumed by passion, four years has reduced the former inferno to bitterness and ashes.

By an old flame... A world-weary master of seduction, Ludovic "The Devil" DeVere is bored with his chosen life of debauchery.
When Diana's charge disappears, she is forced to seek help from the devil's lair, and their mutual desire reignites with undeniable ferocity.

Fire is best fought with fire... While DeVere is hell-bent to have her back for keeps, Diana is equally determined to bring him to his acquiring some sensual secrets of her own.

"What the devil is it, Winchester?" Lord DeVere snapped at the appearance of his majordomo. "I thought I communicated quite clearly that we were not to be disturbed."
The flushing servant diverted his gaze to the ceiling in an obvious effort to ignore the ongoing orgy. "But there is a lady to see you, my lord. She is most insistent."
"Another one?" Lord Malden chortled. "By all means, have him send the baggage in. Damn me, DeVere, but you are well supplied."
"I am, indeed," DeVere answered. "It is a most amicable arrangement with Madam Hayes, but I had not requested another." DeVere gave another long, lazy pull on the stem of the hookah proffered by his scantily clad companion and cast a sadly indifferent gaze at the temptress who enthusiastically sucked his cock.
The servant flushed. "You misapprehend, my lord. This lady—"
"Will not be turned away." Diana stepped boldly into the room.
Ludovic almost laughed aloud. For there she stood, as if he'd conjured her. Although a black veil obscured her face, he could have identified her proud carriage and sultry voice among a hundred similar women. In all of his six-and-thirty years, he had never allowed a woman to get under his skin, but this one had infected him with an infirmity for which he had yet to find a complete cure.
Oh, he'd sought balm for his condition, all right. In Paris, he had soothed his raging fever with opera dancers, and in Italy, the finest Venetian courtesans had served as a temporary unguent. Following in the footprints of the ignoble Baron Baltimore, after whom he had capriciously chosen to model his life, Ludovic had sojourned to the East in an endeavor to satiate his sybaritic senses in every possible way. But still, his symptoms—the hollow sensation, the emotional detachment as if he were sleepwalking through life—inevitably returned.
Though his pulse had quickened at the very sight of Diana, he addressed the woman kneeling between his legs with an air of careless indifference. "Put your playthings away, my pet, for we have an unexpected guest."
Stepping closer, Diana addressed him with icy hauteur. "So this is what you have reduced your life to, my lord?"

The Baronet’s Blackout Bombshell by Raven McAllan

Your past has a habit of catching up with you. Bare-assed, climbing a wall, would be one of those times, naturally.
Chrissie thought her humiliation was complete when Baronet Archie called off their engagement. However, meeting him again, when she is attempting to break back into her temporary residence, takes embarrassment to new heights. Will he turn her in to her boss or do the gentlemanly thing and look the other way? Archie has never forgotten his little bombshell. Being so visibly reminded of her attributes makes him determined to atone for his past mistakes.
There is nothing quite like a war going on to remind you that life is short and there for the taking. Can Archie convince Chrissie he's here to stay, or will circumstances drive them apart once more?

"For Christ's sake, Archie," Chrissie burst out, forgetting Archie had no idea who she was, "stop gawking like a barrow boy at my bits and pieces and help me down! Can't you see I'm stuck here?"
"Oh, er, well, now, then. Right, oh...But you'll owe me. And do I know you?"
Bugger! Chrissie realized the darkness might hide her identity, but not her body, which he obviously enjoyed seeing. The thought made her go very warm and wet.
"Well, not all of me. No," she said in her normal upper-class manner. She forgot the sloppier accent she had deliberately cultivated so as not to seem out of place or snobbish. Her parents may be, but both she and Merle were much more in tune with normality.
In the dim light from the almost covered headlamps, she watched Archie move to stand right under her, his gait uneven. Had he been injured and she not notified? She held her breath as he stood still, looked her up and down, found where her skirt was caught, and swiftly and surely unhooked it. Thank goodness her face was in shadow.
Taking his time and with a very obvious sigh of great satisfaction, he helped her slide down his body. First her legs and then her behind, rubbed over his erection. Chrissie's skin tingled, and she began to sweat. His cock was hard and thick. She could feel that even through his trousers. It sent all sorts of hitherto unknown feelings thorough her, and she wanted to twist around and rub it up and down her mound. Whether to increase or end the strange sensations between her legs, she was not sure.
As her feet hit the ground, Chrissie tensed. Could she make a run for it? Would he even recognize her in the dark?
He must have guessed what she intended to do, because he took a firm grip of her shoulders, and spun her around as he grabbed her behind and pulled her firmly against him, his erection throbbing between her legs.
Chrissie's own legs opened involuntarily. Her skirt still hitched up around her waist, there was very little between her now-moist, curls and his throbbing cock. It was a contest of who was the most aroused.
There was no room for thought. Archie's moved his hand to that sensitive spot between her legs. There was a ringing in her ears, and she started to shake as he pressed her bud. Just the way she liked it...
Chrissie whimpered.
"You like that, don't you?" She felt Archie move his fingers and slip one inside her.

Stealing the Sheriff’s Heart by L.B. Shire

Sheriff Corban Culley came to Becker's Ridge to set roots and make a good name for himself. He never expected to risk it all to save Miss Amelia Grey, the woman who stole his heart.
Sheriff Corban Culley is hot on the heels of an outlaw who just robbed the local stagecoach. He captures the hooded bandit easily enough, but what he finds under that cover will change his life forever.
As of late, Amelia Grey has been threatened, bullied and blackmailed. In her desperation to save her kidnapped brother and her family's ranch, she's forced to make a tough decision. After falling for handsome lawman Corban Culley, she spent months finding ways to cross his path. But she hadn't expected their next encounter to be with her on the wrong side of the law, and him needing to risk his reputation to save her family.

Amelia leaned forward, and attempted to hide the grimace on her face. Her ribcage was tender from where Corban had crushed her into the hard ground with his body. The pain was endurable compared to the extreme displeasure that crossed his features each time their eyes met.
She wished she could crawl into a cave and hide. By the look on Sheriff Culley's face, she could tell she was in big trouble.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he asked again. His features were dark and drawn in an unhappy frown. This wasn't how she'd envisioned herself ending up in his arms.
"I'll live." She lowered her gaze to the ground. She'd hoped for weeks to catch his eye, along with every other single, eligible woman in town. To her delight, the sheriff had chosen her, above all the rest, to spend the evening with at the barn dance. She'd been ecstatic with his offer.
A woman couldn't have asked for a more handsome date. His collar-length chestnut hair curled about his ears under the wide brimmed cowboy hat he wore. His warm brown eyes were confident, and lit up when he smiled. And he smiled a lot—at her. She'd relished the power of his strong arms around her and then to her great joy, he'd kissed her with a passion that had sent sparks clear to her toes. She'd been left breathless. Her body ached for something more she didn't comprehend.
For weeks after the dance, she'd made excuses to return to town. The supplies she'd forgotten, visits to the ladies of the church. All in hopes to catch a glimpse of him. She found he preoccupied her every thought throughout the day since that first kiss.
To her delight, she'd been able to catch his eye at a recent church social. They'd strolled arm in arm by the creek that passed through town, and she'd kissed his cheek and flirted with modest intent. He remained chivalrous, to her dismay. She'd hoped he would kiss her with the same passion he'd shown her at the dance.
Even if she'd ruined any chance of winning Corban's heart with this robbery, she could trust that he'd at least help her save her brother. He was the sheriff after all.
