Checkmate by R.L. Mathewson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Since the day they met in preschool, Rory James and Connor O'Neil have been enemies. It isn't enough that Connor can't go one day without making sure he does something to stir the pot where Rory is concerned. When Rory and Connor both offer bids for construction, they find the only way they are going to get the account is to work together.
From being banned from restaurants, stores, and a variety of trips to jail can these two work together in order to make their dream project possible? Doubtful, but there is a little known fact where Connor is concerned, he has been in love with Rory since that first day in preschool. Maybe in a round-a-bout warped way Rory could have picked up on that fact, but she is always waiting for the other shoe to drop where Connor is concerned. Connor makes a deal with Rory for them both to get what they want out of this project, she pretends to be his girlfriend with full on public displays of affection, he makes sure she gets her addition to the work they are doing and he gets her in his arms. It only takes Connor one day to realize this deal might have been made in haste, his only recourse to change the rules as they go along.
Loved, loved, loved it. This was hilarious from beginning to end and you can't get enough of these two. You also get to have a few of the Bradfords that come out to play and are introduced to Rory's brothers and cousins. I sure hope there is more to the series, because you want too pick up the next book and read it right away. Excellent addition to the series.
