Mage’s
Bane by Chacelyn Pierce
Blurb:
Can Ari, an Akasha Mage, trust the
dangerous and sexy male Djinni promising to protect her in the face of evil?
Being a rogue Akasha Mage is no easy
feat for Aribelle Delano. Neither is summoning Riaz, a Djinni that makes her
knees go weak in a way that would shame her ancestors.
A new threat of demons intent on
killing Ari for nefarious purposes has her putting all her trust in Riaz, who
swears to protect her in the face of evil. But she's been taught that fully
trusting Riaz is unwise, and he's constantly looking for a way to break free of
her control.
Ari must face the new demonic threat
and handle the Sultan of Old Magic who dominates her mind...and eventually, her
body and soul as well. Together, her and Riaz must find a way to stop the
demons and their summoner, even if that means breaking the rules that have been
in place between the Akasha and Djinn for millenniums.
Excerpt:
I stumbled into the musty room, trying
to see through the hazy shimmer. I kept attempting to blink it away with no
success. A cold sweat gave me clammy skin, and I was sure it was because of the
venom being pumped faster by my erratic heartbeat. I was slightly nervous by
the Djinn healing to come. The demon venom threatened to kill me at any moment,
but I was actually more worried about Riaz's hands on me, touching me in my
most intimate spots. Even though I'd known him a quarter of my life, I couldn't
rid myself of this childish discomfort...or was it anticipation? This isn't
a big deal at all, so stop acting like it is.
It wasn't like it was the first time.
Riaz had healed me once before when I was a teenage girl. I'd tried to be a
smart ass and show off to the big, bad Djinni my new driver's license-as if he
cared about mortal things-and I got showy-flashy with my driving. I plunged us
off the highway and down a steep embankment, hitting damn near every tree on
the way down. The rescue crews and newspapers called me a lucky girl for
over a year.
Had it not been for Riaz's healing
touch, I'm pretty sure internal bleeding would've taken me out at the tender
age of eighteen. I'd been pretty out of it, but I remember Riaz had been
fast-acting on keeping me alive. I know I hit my head pretty hard because after
all his insults calling me a foolish girl, I thought I saw compassion in his
eyes. I even thought I heard him telling me not to die and leave him. Well, I
figure he said that out of fear he'd waste away on earth as nothing more than a
specter.
He saved me to save himself then. But
this particular night, I expected him to demand I send him back while I rotted
away from demon venom. Just to prove he didn't care I needed him, I thought he
might make me beg for my life. But he did none of that as he silently trailed
behind me. I turned-a bit unsteadily-to see him close and lock the door with a
tight-lipped expression.
The fast motion sent me into a dizzy
state, causing my stomach to churn. I covered my mouth until the wave of nausea
passed. Good lord, I'll be mortified if Riaz sees me puking or hears me
spilling my guts in the bathroom like some college frat party.
It was bad enough he'd probably never
let me live any of this down. After a few deep breaths, I was finally okay
enough to remove my hand and place it against my stomach.
"Take your shirt off and lay
across the bed." Riaz's authoritative voice caused my pulse to jump a
notch. Hesitantly, I lifted my grubby shirt over my head and let it fall to the
floor. I glanced at him to see what emotion-if any-Riaz felt and sighed. All I
saw was indifference-and me half-naked before him.
In fact, he didn't even try to
catch an eyeful of skin as any normal male would. Granted, Riaz was no normal
male, but most males, human or not, would soak up the exposed skin of a
female. I wondered how he could look at me with irrelevance when I stood before
him in only a bra. I couldn't keep my eyes off him at any given
moment.
It was unfair he had a willpower I
didn't possess. I mean, I wasn't drop-dead gorgeous, but I assumed-hell, I
don't know what I assumed. Riaz was ancient. He'd had at least fifteen
Akasha Mage handlers before me over the eras, so me parading around fully naked
would only get a raised eyebrow and him asking if I'd fallen off the deep end
again. I hated that the attraction was one-sided in our relationship.
It was immoral for an Akasha to become
sexually involved with her Djinni. It would never end well for either party,
and according to my former mentor, Yasmin, it was forbidden. But I couldn't
help but wonder if he'd ever gotten intimate with any of his past mages.
Someone must have slipped up to realize that bonking a Djinni wasn't the best
tactic in any given situation.

Enchantment: The Laws
of Segregation, Book 3 by Nina Croft
Blurb:
Can Shayla and Tallon break the bonds
of enchantment and find each other before the Order destroys them both?
In defiance of the Laws of Segregation
that mean to keep them apart, the warlock Enforcer and young witch fall in love
and devise a plan to overthrow the Order and save their world. Unfortunately,
their trip back to Arroway is thwarted by a powerful warlock, and Shayla finds
herself trapped between worlds.
Frantic to be reunited with Shayla
before the Order discovers her whereabouts, Tallon must use any means necessary
to combat the magic that binds her.
Excerpt:
As always, at the rising of the moons,
Shayla felt the magic inside her uncurl and stretch sleepily.
She didn't move until the moons hung
directly overhead, then she pushed herself to her feet and held out her hand to
Tallon. He slid his hand into hers and rose to stand beside her. Shayla led him
out into the meadow beyond the trees where the moons could shine down on them.
She released his hand but then held her own out, palm up.
Tallon drew his knife, the rasp of the
blade loud in the silence. He placed the point at the end of her lifeline and
then drew it down across her palm. The blood welled up immediately from the
shallow cut. Tallon slashed his own palm and then pressed his hand to hers.
"I choose you, Tallon."
As she spoke the words, the sky filled
with crimson lightning. A great bolt rent the night. It struck them where their
hands joined. They fell to their knees but didn't let go as the magic pulsed
through them and finally drained into the land.
All around them, the meadow bloomed,
spreading outward from where they knelt in the tall grass. Flowers sprang up,
and in the forest, blossom emerged from the bare branches. As she ran her free
hand over the flowers, a sweet scent filled the air. Shayla breathed in deeply.
This was how Arroway should have been. This was the way it would have been
before the Laws of Segregation. But she wouldn't allow the sadness to overtake
her.
Tomorrow would have to be soon enough
to attempt to put right the wrongs. This night was hers. Hers and Tallon's.

Helike
Dreaming by Cate Castania
Blurb:
A shy girl must become a true heroine
to save her city and win the heart of her Divine Guardsman.
Nothing in Tia's quiet, humble life
has prepared her for the day a member of the Divine Guard of Poseidon appears
at her door and throws down a challenge: will she compete for the honor of
becoming a Dreamer in the great Temple of Poseidon? She agrees, little
suspecting that an even greater challenge lies ahead, one that will test her to
her limits and beyond.
Excerpt:
Tia stood transfixed under his
scrutiny. Those eyes. They were of a deep, almost luminous green that
made her feel as if she were gazing into the depths of the Aegean. Tia finally
tore her eyes away and cast her gaze down. Nothing in her life as the daughter
of a weaver prepared her for an encounter such as this, yet somehow she must
manage. An unfamiliar emotion filled her mind: pride. She knew that she would
rather die than disgrace herself before this stranger.
Already I am no longer just a commoner, she thought in wonderment, as she
lifted her eyes once more and looked steadily at the guardsman. She took in the
rest of him. His shoulder-length blond hair framed a broad, tanned face with
well-defined cheekbones, a long aquiline nose, and a full mouth set in a strong
jaw. His simple green tunic was cinched at the waist and did little to conceal
his impressive frame. He was perfectly proportioned, from his broad shoulders
and muscular arms down to the well-defined calves wrapped in the leather straps
of his sandals. I must be delirious. No real man can be so perfect.
"Tia," the man said, his
voice finally breaking the silence. It was rich and melodious, with a hint of
amusement behind it. "Your father has told you why I have come?"
"Yes, sir," she replied,
forcing her voice to sound calm. "It is an honor to be offered the Choice,
an honor surely too great for someone of my lowly station."
The man seemed almost shocked by her
words. There seemed to be both anger and urgency in his response, although he
was clearly making an effort to conceal both as he said evenly, "I would
not have been sent here if you were not a suitable candidate. Who are you to
question the judgment of our Lord?"
Tia was taken aback by his words. She
had no way of knowing that a woman raised in a noble house would ever dare to
turn down the Choice. Nor had it occurred to her that the great Poseidon
Helikonios even knew of her existence, let alone that He might have been involved
in deciding to send this guardsman to her. "I beg your forgiveness,
sir," she said with quiet humility. "I am but an ignorant girl and do
not know how to respond."
Her answer seemed to please him and
the amusement was back in his voice as he said, "Why, you must accept. It
is as simple as that."
"Then I accept," she
replied, with a quiver in her voice. "Though I hardly know what it
means."
"All you need to know is that you
must report to the eastern gate of the temple at dawn tomorrow. Bring nothing
with you."
She nodded silently, numbed by the
enormity of what she had just done. Suddenly, the guardsman strode over to her
and grasped her by both arms, his strong hands effortlessly rendering her
motionless. "There is one thing I need to know however," he
said as his gaze captured hers. "Are you still a maiden?"
Tia felt utterly exposed and
vulnerable beneath his compelling gaze. His powerful grip on her arm was almost
painful and her breath caught in her throat as she stammered her reply.
"No man has ever touched me as intimately as you are doing now." He
held her for a long moment more, eyes still locked on hers as he weighed the
truth of her words. Finally he released her and stepped back, the fierceness
gone from his demeanor.
"I had to ask for your own
safety," he said kindly. "There are certain—ordeals ahead of you
which would destroy any unvirtuous woman."

Wildfire
by Yazmin Subha
Blurb:
One taste and Braden knew Millie was
the one. Considering their tormented history, this fiery witch would rather die
than give herself to a vampire.
Braden has searched all his life for
the one who will help him regain his humanity and give him absolute power. One
bite and he knew Millie was the one he had been searching for. Millie, a fiery
red head is the last one in the line of high born witches who would rather die
than give herself to this vampire. After all he killed her mother for her blood
as well, didn't he? But in a twist of fate Millie learns too late what the
truth is. But will death be the only thing that unites them?
Excerpt:
She was slight, her curves meshing
against him as though they belonged next to him. She continued to wriggle her
lower half trying to get out of his arms. Only the friction awoke the fierce
passion residing underneath his skin, and his cock hardened.
"Be still my wild fire, it will
be easier." Braden spoke in a low tone directly into her ear. He caught
the smell of her hair and could not resist burying his face in the mass of red
curls. He groaned with need. Need for blood and need for her.
His voice soothed her anxiety and he
felt her stop trying to get out of his arms. Her heart beat slowed down,
eventually matching his own. Synchronised again, Braden kissed the back of her
head. Enjoying the feel of her silky hair in his face, he bathed in her curls.
Moving the curls away from her neck, he bent down, opened his mouth, and sucked
the skin on her neck. She tasted of nectar, his very own personal brand. His
head screamed to bite, to taste that rich blood he had sipped last night in the
car wash. But the man in him wanted her to be willing, to take her as she
reached the height of orgasm as she had nearly done so in the car wash. This
time he would be inside her, not just pleasuring her with his hands.
His mind came back to the present as
he felt little shakes coming from her, and he realised she was crying.
Her little voice wobbled and she gave
a sob, "don't hurt me, please."

The
Songwriter by Brooke Adams
Blurb:
His music brought them together. A
gypsy's magic would do the rest.
For successful romance novelist Annie
Blake, writing happy endings is one thing but believing in them is another.
When her editor proposes writing the biography of famous eighties rock star and
heart-throb James Craven, she jumps at the prospect—but she gets more than she
bargains for. At fifty-nine, James is still very attractive and Annie falls
helplessly in love with him, only to find herself intimidated by the
thirty-year age gap and his sexual advances toward her.
As his life story unravels, she
discovers there's more to him than meets the eye. James confesses the secret
behind his rise to stardom, which is a gypsy's blessing-turned-curse. He chose
to sacrifice love for the sake of fame. Now he must find true love before his
sixtieth birthday to break the curse and restore his youth, and time is running
out.
Annie must choose between believing in
fairytales and losing him forever. But is she in love with the rock star or
with the man behind the legend?
Excerpt:
It was past midnight, and Annie was
listening to "Time Stood Still" on her laptop in the living room for
the third time in a row. She missed James terribly and could hardly concentrate
from thinking about him. The days had seemed to drag by, and now it was finally
Friday. She had butterflies in her stomach, thinking of his arrival the next
day. Reluctant to leave her comfortable position on the sofa, she got up to put
another log on the fire and let her thoughts drift while watching the flames
dancing up and down.
"Working late?"
Annie swung around, startled at the
unexpected sound of his voice.
"James! I wasn't expecting
you until tomorrow." It was all she could do to refrain from flinging
herself at him.
"I can see that," he said,
his eyes twinkling as he observed her. She was wearing nothing but cotton
pajama pants and a snug-fitting top that clearly outlined her nipples.
"It was getting warm near the
fire," she explained, blushing and crossing her arms hastily over her
chest. He looked gorgeous in black pants and matching silk shirt that set off
his blond hair and blue eyes.
"What are you listening to?"
he asked, clearly changing the subject to avoid embarrassing her further.
"Uh... 'Time Stood Still.' It's
my favorite," she admitted. "I could listen to it all day long."
"May I have this dance,
madam?" he asked, bowing mockingly and offering her his arm.
"Naturally, sir," she
replied, giggling and following his cue.
He took her in his arms and kissed the
palm of her hand, sending her pulse racing, and then placed it on his chest and
held it there. She could feel his heart beating and the warmth of his body as
she followed him, gently swaying with the beautiful music, and felt full of
desire for him. She closed her eyes, wishing that the music would never stop,
and imagined that they were alone in the world at that very moment. After a
while, his free hand wandered down to her lower back, pressing her against him.
"I don't bite, you know."
She gasped at the unexpected contact
through the thin material of her pajama pants. She could clearly feel him
hardening and felt herself getting wet in response. The strap of her top
slipped off, leaving her shoulder bare and part of her breast uncovered. James
slowly lowered his head to kiss the exposed skin of her breast, tantalizingly
near her nipple. The touch of his lips on her hot skin made her knees go weak.
He rained kisses up her shoulder and neck, her ear, her face...and then softly
pressed his lips to hers. He slipped his hands underneath her top, caressing
her bare skin and making her shiver with delight. He looked at her
questioningly and then claimed her mouth again, deepening the kiss and pressing
her even harder against him. Her body was completely molded to his, and she
could feel the full length of his erection.
"If you want me to stop, just say
it."
Annie tried to think straight but couldn't...not
while his fingers were blazing a trail of sparks over her skin. She was about
to cross the point of no return and knew there would be no going back. There
was no denying it: she wanted him.
James drew back unexpectedly, holding
her at arm's length.
"You know where to find me,"
he whispered, taking both her hands in his and kissing her palms. Then he left
her and walked up the stairs to his bedroom.
Annie stood there, quivering, her skin
still tingling from his electrifying touch. She was bewildered and didn't know
what to think. Why had he taken her to the limit and then left her? She watched
him coolly walk up the stairs without as much as a glance back. She slumped
onto the sofa, trying to understand what had just happened.
