BLURB:

From the first time Sadie’s eyes met those of Brody McKenna in the hot Sierra Madre Mountains, theirs was a potent attraction—not gentle, slow, and easy, but hot, hard, and all-consuming. The daughter of a dysfunctional family, Sadie had dreams no man could wrench from her with hot sex and an all-consuming passion. She’d challenge this alpha male with all the strength she possessed. But her red hair, fiery temperament, and indomitable spirit obsessed Brody...and he knew he had to find a way to show her he was more than he appeared and convince her to make a life with him.

Excerpt:

"You may call me Nigan. I am the one who looks ahead." He spoke slowly, reverently. "If you listen to the wind, it will tell you your future. The wind, sky and earth will never lie to you if your heart is pure. Follow your heart and you will find eternal happiness."

"I'm not sure I understand," she said then strained to see if she could hear anything.

"In time you will." Then he turned to Brody. "Have you seen the devil slayer?" "Now it is my turn to not understand," Brody said."He rides alone on a black horse and he is dressed all in black. If you saw him,

you would know. There is no mistaking him for anyone else." Nigan set his fork on the table and once again looked to the sky as if seeking answers. "He is like us but different. Know that he is a good man."

"Devil slayer..." Brody pushed his hair from his eyes. "Can't say that I've heard talk of anyone with that description."

"He chases the demons of the night and sometimes the day. He has seen the Chullachaqui and seeks him out. When he finds the Amazonian devil, he will slay him." Nigan folded his hands in front of them. For a moment he looked down as if praying then faced Brody once more.

"I might have seen him our first night out. Sadie was resting and I walked a little ways from the campfire. I thought I heard something. All I saw was a dark silhouette. A coldness slithered inside of me."

"I could have seen this Amazonian devil the night of the storm." Lyn gestured with her fork. "A great bolt of lightening lit up the cave opening. Carr and I saw a ghostly silhouette of a man. At the sight of this creature, cold sliced through me like a knife."

"The devil slayer. The legends abound. He is almost—what do you call them these days—a super hero. You did not see the devil slayer, because if you did, you would not have been chilled." Nigan said pushing back his long white hair. He looked up, into the sun. "The heat feels good on my old bones. Why are you here, child? Why did you travel to the Sierra Madres?"

Sadie cleared her throat to speak. "I'm an anthropologist. My team and I are working on material to apply for a grant. We do not agree. So we each went our separate way to research individually."

"What good will that do? Separation will not give you the answers you seek. People must work together."

"We will meet in the fall and discuss the possible projects." Sadie set her fork down. Brody reached out and placed his hand on top of hers. The gesture warmed her. She had felt the cold with the talk of the devil slayer and the Chullachaqui.

"Then you did not have a calling to these parts." Nigan stood. A deep frown grew across his brow. "You are my great grandson's mate. He is the alpha male. You must stay here."

"No," Sadie shook her head, clasping her fists tightly and withdrawing her hand from Brody's. "I don't have to do anything. Mate?" She looked at Brody whose head was downcast so she couldn't read his expression. Her heart raced and nervous energy coursed through her as anger flared.

"You must come to terms with your fate. Sooner or later you will have to." Nigan continued standing, his hands folded in front of him.

"My fate and my will are my own. I know who I am and what I want." She felt the increasing rise of her temper. She did not mean to disrespect Brody's great grandfather. But...
