Bear Meets Girl by Shelly Laurenston

Bear Meets Girl (Pride, #7)Bear Meets Girl by Shelly Laurenston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lou Crushek is an easy going man, even if he looks like a drug dealer or could kill you on the spot in the blink of an eye. The one thing he values the most is his job as an undercover cop, but that is a thing of the past as he is transferred to another department and has him sparring with the one woman he hoped never to see again, Marcella Malone. Waking up next to her naked body was freakishly out of character for Crush, but he was willing to go with the flow until she opened her mouth and started talking. He didn't know if he should be aroused or appalled. To make matters worse, Cella has decided Crush is her pretend boyfriend and he has just found out that Cella is the "Bare Knuckles" Malone on his favorite hockey team the Carnivores. Every time Crush thinks about walking away, Cella manages to get more under his skin, for a laid back bear who doesn't like changes he is willing to accept them if Cella is involved.

I have been looking forward to this one for awhile and it did not disappoint. This was a bit more unique as Cella is the aggressor in the story and poor Crush is her victim. There are two things going for this story that really stood out to me. 1. It is extremely funny. 2. Bo, Bo, Bo and more Bo!!!

March: Series Spotlight

Last post for Series Spotlight, one of my favorite series is Divine Creek by Heather Rainier.  Divine Grace (Divine Creek Ranch, #1)Divine Grace by Heather Rainier
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Talk about an epic story, you are pulled in from the beginning with a very very shy Grace whose nuclear relationship with her boyfriend has caused her a lot of self esteem issues.

Jack Warner has been smitten with her for two years, making excuses to see her at the shop she works at. When Grace makes an unexpected move that introduces her to Ethan, Jack's roommate something is unleashed within her. Within days she meets Adam whose piercing gaze and calming manner ignites a long awaited rapture that has the rose colored glasses removed and Grace making some "house cleaning" decisions about her life.

Jack, Ethan, and Adam are all head over heels in love with Grace, she has an innocent quality but at the same time a little minx inside who is anxiously trying to get out. The story takes you through their journey as a couple and Grace's unveiling of a secure, confident woman.

Thought this was wonderful, I really regret not having picked this up sooner.

Reread 10/29 On second read a four star, but will leave it with my original rating. A good story, has a couple things that wore on me but I think it was because I was familiar with the story.

Rachel Lopez is a Strong independent woman whose secret longing is to accept a date with the strikingly handsome Eli Wolf, but her fear of the other woman who fawn over him while he is a bouncer at a nightclub has her treading backwards whenever he asks. Eli only has eyes for Rachel, and his patience is unlimited when it comes to her. Every week he asks knowing that one day she will finally say yes and he can reassure her in every way possible that she is the one for him.

Another fantastic chapter in the Divine Creek series. The synopsis had Rachel as a jealous person which was why I had not picked it up yet but it really is secondary in the story. It is more about her own insecurity acknowledging how she feels towards Eli. Eli is a big teddy bear, although a tough guy on the outside he is a softy when it comes to Rachel. Looking forward to part 2.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Part 2 of Her Gentle Giant picks up with Eli proposing to Rachel and the planning of their wedding. You do find out something about Rachel that was hinted to in the first book and Eli the epitome of the protector is quick in his action.

I thought this was romantic, you get some of the Grace-Ethan-Adam-Jack story that fills in the pages. I wish it had been one book and not split into two, but alas it was two.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Teresa arrived in Divine with her son, she was timid and kept mostly to herself. Over time and with the help of a few close friends she has come out of her shell. When Angel Martinez gets a good look at Teresa he knows there is a past that she is running from but it has no bearing on the feelings he has when around her. With patience and understanding, Angel continues to draw Teresa out with plans on becoming a permanent fixture in her and her sons life.

Joaquin Martinez has a reputation around the rodeo circuit for being a prime candidate for warming the buckle bunnies bed. His first glance of Teresa tells him one thing, those days are over. Introducing the possibility of having two brothers loving her has Teresa feeling like she is on cloud nine, she knows that her life wont be complete without Angel and Joaquin in it. In order to move forward, they will all have to conquer the ghosts of the past but they are more than willing to do it as long as they have each other.

I am officially addicted, this one for me is a 4.5. I read it out of order because in the first book Divine Grace there was hints of something between Teresa and Angel, plus I was curious about her past. I love how new characters are introduced and also the favorites from the other books all make appearances in the books.

***I have been thinking about rereading this one for awhile, just as good the second time around. I wish the author would write a book about Allen, he is not in it a lot but definitely leaves an impression.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Rosemary Piper knew from a young age that she would marry Wes and Evan, never doubting for a moment that they were soul mates. The only hitch in her plan is the radioactive arguments with Evan which leaves them both saying and doing things they don't mean, putting Wes in the uncomfortable position of being stuck in the middle. If their relationship is going to work, they are going to have to learn to accept each other for better or worse.

I thought this was pretty good, it dragged a bit though in the pacing.

Ash Peterson has a way of setting of Juliana Meyers with every word he speaks, the fiery tempered has a way of telling him off and trying to put him in his place. Ash though wont be deterred from what he wants and it is Juliana. Through a series of comical events, the two find a comfortable rhythm as their relationship continues to grow even with a few hurdles set in their way.

I liked this one, dragged a slight bit at the end but otherwise a fun read.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One year after her husbands death, Maya receives a letter from him telling her to capture the fantasy she always wanted with their best friend Kendall and make it a reality. Kendall has been her anchor and go to person for advice, but he wants more, he wants Maya.

When Maya agrees to spend time with him for a week to see how they suit, she is pleasantly surprised it includes his brothers Boone and Richard. She has feelings for all three and Kendall has no qualms with making it a menage.

Each brother has something different to offer Maya, Richard with his soft heart, Boone with his passion for living, and Kendall her rock. When trouble lurks for Maya, the men unite to protect her pulling the four of them even closer together.

Another fantastic read of the Divine Creek Ranch series, Richard is my favorite he is a heartbreaker. 4.5 stars.

View all my reviews Summer's Indiscretion (Divine Creek Ranch, #7)Summer's Indiscretion by Heather Rainier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summer Heston is wondering what she has done for such bad karma when it comes to men, each date, boyfriend, blind date seems to have disaster all over it and her newest setup failed the moment she saw the disappointment register on his face that she was a full figured woman. Little does Summer realize that security specialists Ace and Kemp have been watching her, while on a case and are waiting for their moment to approach her.

What she had hoped to be a a normal courtship, becomes something else as the threat of continues to grow for the women of Divine and Summer is their next target.

I love this series, I was a little perplexed by who Ace was going to end up with since in previous books it looked to be someone else and he had an air of mystery that did not come out so much in this book. Once you get into the story though it works, more so for Kemp and Summer since she seems to have a way to calm the steely exterior he has. I am most looking for the next book, Lydia's story.

View all my reviews Lydia's Twin Temptation (Divine Creek Ranch, #8)Lydia's Twin Temptation by Heather Rainier
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Out of all the Divine Creek books this is the one I have been waiting with the most anticipation for, I can't recall what book Clayton and Chance were introduced in, I think it was Heavenly Angel, but I have been eager for this story to unfold and it did not disappoint.

Chef Lydia Webster moved to Fort Stockton with a job offer that looked like it would bolster her career, only to find out it fell through and ended up getting a job at Cafe Oasis with a handsy sleazy manager who she has been able to keep at arm's length. Finding her stuff stolen out of her dingy motel room is just about the last straw for her.

Chance can't wait to see Lydia again, he has slowly been building up the courage to ask her out even though they live so far apart. His twin Clayton is interested too, but cannot see how a relationship would work out long distance. When Chance sees the opportunity to offer Lydia a job at the ranch cooking for the hands, he hopes she will accept it. Laying it all on the line, he shares with her what he hopes will develop into a meaningful relationship between the three if she is willing to try.

A huge fulfilling sigh..loved it.

As Doctor Emma Guthrie is contemplating her life as a future spinster, she does not realize she has caught the eye of Duke Rivers and Gage Randall. Although both men are attracted to her, the last thing they want is to have Emma think of them as a a patient, especially with the predicament Gage has found himself in.

The timing could not be better when Emma moves in the apartment below Gage and Duke, wanting to finally make their move they discover they have more in common than they initially thought. Each one of them has a bucket list and and agree to tackle the items all three of them have on the list, the first is to be involved in a menage.

This was fairly good, a bit different than the other Divine Creek books. I did enjoy the crossover with Nell from the Bliss series, plus all the favorites are involved at some point in this book. The settings were fascinating as they work through their lists, if I thought camping in trees would be as fun as they had, I might just give it a try.

Lost in Bliss by Sophie Oak

Lost in Bliss (Nights in Bliss, Colorado #4)Lost in Bliss by Sophie Oak
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laura Niles took awhile to acclimate in Bliss, a woman from a past she ran from was quickly embraced by the town, but her own weariness about trusting others had her treading carefully. Five years later, Laura is a new women and although has had an occasional date she still pines for the two FBI agents who stole her heart.

Cameron Briggs and Rafe Kincaid have been searching for Laura, ever since she ran. They were not sure what they would find when they finally found her, but know she is the only one for them. Although they have not worked out the mechanics of a menage, they are willing to try for Laura.

Laura is not standing with wide open arms when she sees Cameron and Rafe, instead she pretends she is engaged and has both men chasing their tails. The one thing Laura underestimated though is the determination both men have to claim her, but the serial killer they have been hunting has found his way to Bliss and Laura is the one victim who got away.

Can I just say I love Sophie Oak. Like a fine wine her books are savory, spicy, and surprising. I always get a huge chuckle when I read about her Bliss characters and their is a lot of Max in this one (I love Max). Cameron quickly becomes a favorite in this book, he is sinfully all bad boy.

I love a story about a single mom, some have written off the idea of ever finding another man while some are open to the idea but their attraction is with someone who doesn't look to be a commitment type man.  There are a ton of different formulas, but mostly they make for a great story.

Monday Musings....looking for a recommendation

I am looking for a Cinderella type story.  Doesn't have to be literal but more a rags to riches type story.  I have been in the mood to read a tale of a girl who is down on her luck, may have overbearing parent or sisters who is eventually swept off her feet.  Can be modern or historical.  Any suggestions?

Here are a list of the suggestions:

Bear Necessities by Dana Marie Bell

Bear Necessities (Halle Shifters, #1)Bear Necessities by Dana Marie Bell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Alexander "Bunny" Bunson heads to Halle Pennsylvania to check on his cousin Chloe, who he senses is in trouble. What he finds is not only his mate, but his cousin beaten within an inch of her life.

Tattoo artist Tabitha "Tabby" Garwood came to Pennsylvania after spending 8 years as an Outcast. Although she has not been accepted as part of the pack, the others allow her to live in peace and has made some strong ties in the community. When Bunny comes into her store, she knows her mate has come for her. Her troubles in the past have her worrying about rejection from Bunny, but her status as an outcast has one tenacious group trying to use her for their own entertainment and Bunny has to protect her and call the beast within that he has tried to keep calm for all these years.

This was an entertaining read. I liked both characters and thought this looks to be another fantastic series. It ties into the Puma series and definitely sets up for more sequels. Can't wait until the next one.

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines. This is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 & over crowd, and make some new friends!

Question of the Week: Do you ever dream about the books you've read?

Darkfever (Fever, #1)I confess...I do.  When I was reading the Fever series I had a lot of dreams  over that one, maybe because the stories are so beautifully described.  It could also be that it has one of the most intense alpha male characters I have read in a book.  The story is gritty and is so easy to interpret visually it easily makes you susceptible to dreaming about it.

It doesn't take long for Melody and Clay to find themselves falling for one another, but when Melody figures out her abusive ex has figured out where she is she will do anything to protect Clay, even if it means risking her own happiness to do it.

This was a great read, I liked the UFC angle and kept thinking of Tom Hardy in Warrior while reading this.

Theme Day: Quirky Characters

Some of the best books involve quirky characters, people who may have an eccentric hobby or just beat to a different drummer.  Here are a few of my favorites

Dark Side of the Moon (Dark-Hunter, #9; Were-Hunter, #4)Dark Side of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Dark Hunter/Were Shifter Ravyn gets himself hauled off to the pound he thinks perhaps his time maybe up. When he is adopted by a woman who appears to be allergic to cats, he prods her to get the collar that is keeping him in cat form off in order to gain back his strength.

Susan Michaels went from a dynamic journalist to writing about aliens and creatures for a tabloid, after one wrong lead ruined her career. When her best friend calls her to the pound to share some news, she ends up with a cat and stuffed up nose. Susan realizes her life has just changed as the cat transforms to a chiseled naked man in her front room. The fun is just beginning as he becomes the hunted rather than the hunter.

Ton of fun, plus it had Savitar, Nick, Otto some of my favorites from the series. The one thing about this one is I noticed there were several side stories with Nick, Cael, and a few others. Love her books.

Jenna Landry has come home to Iowa to spend the summer teaching a music class. As one of the former band members of rock band The Mollies, she has had her share of follies but when she meets neighbor Michael Stone and his teenage daughter, she feels an attachment she never wanted with another person.

Michael doesn't know what it is about Jenna, who is completely opposite of him, but he can't stop thinking about her. Her unique perspective about his daughter has made for their short visit to finally be what he always hoped it would be. As he comes up with an arrangement to tame the desire building between them, he finds he is not willing to just let it go, but Jenna is a free spirit and he does not want to every stifle the bright light she radiates for those around her.

I liked this, it is a bit melancholy in spots but overall had a great story. Michael is very rigid in his ways, if he can't scientifically explain it he doesn't get it. Jenna exudes emotion which leaves Michael wondering if he is missing some important lessons in life. Fun read.

Treated like a mouse in a glass box all of her life, Shilo ran at the first opportunity and has been in hiding ever since. Usually cautious of her surroundings, Shilo is lost in thought when she encounters a lycan ready to attack. With electro-kinetic talents it is easy to subdue him, but she had not planned on a second lycan before she passes out.

Prime alpha, Dante doesn't know what to make of the woman he has taken. Not wanting to be zapped he is cautious of keeping her at a safe distance, but his wolf wants to mate. Dante needs to find out more about the mysterious lady, before he can determine if she truly is his mate.

I always like Madelaine Montague's books, there is a different angle in each book and this one does not disappoint. The lycan's are Cajun is purely sinful, talk about a hot read. Another fantastic shifter read.

***reread, just as good as the first time. I had forgotten a lot of the plot so it still seemed like a fresh read. The big standout is Maurice who is a romantic at heart.

Nikolai Vorislav is done with humans, even with the most gorgeous woman in front of him, nude with a hint of a tattoo and curves that don't end, she wouldn't be able to handle him. However, Nikolai has never met a more vicious, hot tempered, siren in his life. She won't back down, has a mean arm that packs a powerful punch, and for some reason everyone else wants to get to know her. Ryan had no intention of marrying now he has to come up with a bride and baby within a year. Now that his latest attempt has fled as if the hounds of hell was chasing her down, he is desperate to find a new bride before midnight. Looking at his secretary Faith, he begins to form a new idea, although she is plain and wears clothes that fit horribly, her loyalty is unquestionable. Proposing a marriage where a child will be conceived, Ryan offers her something that no one else has ever done, a chance to have someone love her unconditionally, for if she has a baby, the baby will be hers and he will walk away.

I thought this was a wonderful read, of course I am a real sucker when it comes to Ugly Duckling stories. Faith is wonderful, she has some history that allows her to believe she is unworthy of love from another. Ryan harbors his own hangups when it comes to relationships that leave him believing it is better to be alone.

Keera is on the run, she is finally in a place where she feels safe from her stepbrother who is out to kill her. Finding herself attracted to Theo has been unsettling, especially since he is a Dom and she is new to the scene.

Theo has been waiting and watching Keera, he knows she will be his submissive and soon if he has anything to do about it. After one night proves to Theo she is the one for him, he is stunned when he wakes to find her gone and her collar left behind. Once he realizes she is on the run and hiding, he will do everything in his power to protect her, but first he has to teach his sub some valuable lessons about who is her master.

This was a bit rushed to me, it kind of jumped right in and you did not get the background between the two characters. Theo is interesting and you get glimpses of his back story, but I would have liked more history about both to really pull me in.
